Recent Immigration Policies for study permit applicants

The year 2020 has been a tough year for everybody as we all know how the pandemic took a toll on us. This in turn affected the students especially in India who have been planning to pursue their studies in Canada. A lot of changes in immigration policy have been observed throughout the year. Travel restrictions were first made into effect for international students which earlier restricted them to enter Canada due to COVID – 19.  Although the recent changes in the new immigration policies have brought a huge relief for the international students.

A new list of Designated Learning Institutions (DLIs) which have a valid COVID Readiness Plan approved by the Government of Canada are brought to attention according to which only those students who are accepted in these institutions are allowed to travel to Canada for their studies in spite of their mode of course: online or hybrid.

Those students who are travelling to Canada must have a ready quarantine plan for 14 days which is mandatory that should be shown to the CBSA officers at the time of entry. Without this, the individual may not be allowed to enter Canada even with a valid study permit. Most of the colleges and universities are making it compulsory for the students to opt for their pre ready quarantine plan to ease the students from having to search for one elsewhere.

A week prior to travelling in Canada, all the immigrants should register their details in the ArriveCan app which will carry all the necessary travelling details for the Government of Canada to acknowledge and verify and will be far more convenient to avoid the havoc of standing in a queue.

In addition, International Border Testing Pilot Program is introduced by provinces like Alberta where the immigrants are allowed to quarantine for less than 14 days when the traveller is tested negative. One must have to directly land to the respective port of province where they’re supposed to receive their study permit without landing or laying over anywhere else in Canada. Secondly, the traveller need to be tested for COVID-19 and wait for the results that may arrive within the next 24-48 hours. After testing negative to the COVID-19, the individuals have to quarantine themselves for 5-6 days and again get tested. Only after a confirmed negative shall he/she be allowed to be lifted of the quarantine and resume to their facility.

Moreover, Canadian Government also decreased the CRS score for PR applicants in the upcoming years which is a golden opportunity for all the new immigrants to apply for permanent residence of Canada and will also help Canada to boost their economy by being more inclusive of the immigrants who tend to serve the country.
