City in Focus: Nottingham

Nottingham was one of the industrial hubs of England, and now it is home to two Higher Education institutions which provide education to students from all corners of the globe. The city is not as big as the larger cities, nor is it too small, being just the right size to feel at home, but have enough recreational activities to not get bored. The bus-transport system has been ranked as the best in the country, making it quite easy for students to get around town. The Goose Fair, one of the largest in Europe, is a must-see for all students, as you will find stalls there serving delicious British delicacies like candied apples and fudge, to exhilarating rollercoaster rides! For movie-geeks, the Wollaton Hall, located very near to the Jubilee Campus, was used as the Wayne Manor that appears in the Dark Knight movies!

Moreover, a major advantage for students is the low cost of living. Being majorly a student town, rents are quite low, and with a bit of searching, you can easily find a good house or flat for very affordable rates! Food and shopping too are quite cheaper than the bigger cities like London. There is the added advantage of being able to avail student discounts at almost every outlet, due to the 80,000 strong student population in the city!

Located in a town famously known for Robin Hood, The University of Nottingham, a red-brick university, provides a range of courses through its several schools, making sure every student finds their calling. A QS top 100 university, it is ranked No. 7 in the world for its Pharmacy and Pharmacology courses, in the QS 2020 rankings and was ranked No. 1 for many of its engineering courses in the UK. Athletes can rejoice as the university was ranked as the no.1 sports university by the 2021 THE rankings.

An international university at its heart, the university is consistently ranked in the top league tables for its sporting facilities and representation of international students. The University Park campus is absolutely gorgeous and one of the best in the country, and the on-campus accommodation is top-rated as well, with the newly built Nightingale Hall accommodation ranking #3 in the UK in 2020, according to the THE rankings. The student union provides over 200 societies and clubs to participate in, which cater to a wide range of mainstream sports and niche activities.
