The statistical analysis identified several intriguing trends that occurred in 2021. The United Kingdom is the most popular country, accounting for 49% of all applications for the year, followed by Canada (36%), and the United States (18%).

MBA, MSc Data Science, and Computer Science were the most popular programs for study abroad in 2021, while MSc Management, Business Analytics, and Project Management showed a surge in popularity.

The establishment of the Graduation Immigration Route has increased interest in the United Kingdom as a study abroad destination. Students graduating from UK universities can now work in the UK for up to two years under the new policy. This pattern is forecasted to continue in 2022.

Canada remained a popular destination for students, owing to a wide range of educational opportunities and a student-friendly policy posture. The United States saw an especially significant rebound, owing to the new political administration’s accommodating attitude toward overseas students.

From 2015 to 2020, Canada had a 431 per cent increase in international student enrollment from India, with 1,61,351 students added.

However, the rise of 60,236 students only resulted in a 45% increase, indicating that students from India enrolled in higher education institutions in Canada in bigger numbers and at a far faster rate than students from the United States over the last five years.

The Covid-19 pandemic has had a considerable impact on the flow of foreign students crossing borders to pursue educational opportunities, prompting higher education systems around the world to analyze the context and realities of global academic mobility before and after the health catastrophe.

The option to stay in a country after graduation has become an increasingly crucial aspect in selecting a place to study in. This may have contributed to the decline in popularity of the United States, as the country has stricter visa policies for international graduates.
