Disturbance to the testing requirements of educational institutions due to the Coronavirus pandemic has led to many colleges rethinking how to assess applicants. We have compiled a list of highest-ranked National Universities that are flexible or alternative testing policies like some schools evaluate student’s academic skills by writing essays, assembling a portfolio or by submitting results of Advanced Placement Exams.
The following colleges have been identified based on data reported to the U.S. News Survey-
1. University of Chicago
School Rank – 6
Category – National University
Test Submission Policy – UChicago doesn’t require a standardized test score. International students must prove English language proficiency by providing IELTS, TOEFL or Duolingo scores, although some students can get exception who had English as the primary language of schooling.
2. Wake Forest University (NC)
School Rank – 28
Category – National University
Test Submission Policy – Wake Forest doesn’t require standardized test scores for domestic students by needs TOEFL, IELTS or Duolingo English proficiency scores for international students.
3. New York University
School Rank – 30
Category – National University
Test Submission Policy – Standardized test scores not required for the class of 2025, although International students in the non-U.S. curriculum are expected to provide testing results.
4. University of Rochester (NY)
School Rank – 34
Category – National University
Test Submission Policy – Applicants can choose which standardized exam score to submit to the University. International students are required to provide IELTS, TOEFL or Duolingo test scores to demonstrate their English proficiency.
5. Boston University
School Rank – 42
Category – National University
Test Submission Policy – Due to Coronavirus Boston University is temporarily test-optional for undergrad students applying for fall 2021 or spring 2020 semesters. Although, international students are still required to submit TOEFL or IELTS scores.
6. Brandeis University (MA)
School Rank – 42 (tie)
Category – National University
Test Submission Policy – Does not require ACT or SAT scores. International students still require TOEFL, IELTS or Duolingo scores.
7. Fordham University (NY)
School Rank – 66
Category – National University
Test Submission Policy – Fordham is on a 2-year test-optional pilot program for the class of 2021. International students whose first language is not English must submit TOEFL, IELTS or Duolingo.
8. George Washington University (DC)
School Rank – 66 (tie)
Category – National University
Test Submission Policy – GWU has gone fully test-optional for applicants enrolling in 2021. Although, GWU plans to revert to requiring the ACT and SAT for the future admission cycles. International students are required to submit results of English proficiency exams like IELTS or TOEFL.
9. Worcester Polytechnic Institute (MA)
School Rank – 66 (tie)
Category – National University
Test Submission Policy -Worcester doesn’t need standardized test scores for local students. But, international students must demonstrate English proficiency by submitting exam scores of TOEFL or IELTS.
10. Virginia Tech
School Rank – 74
Category – National University
Test Submission Policy – Virginia Tech is test-optional for the 2021 admission process, though applicants can submit their ACT or SAT results in their application to the college. International students are required to provide TOEFL or IELTS scores for demonstrating their English proficiency.
