The pandemic-era has ushered in a newfound demand for doctors and other medical professionals, who are at the front of the battle lines, are actively combating the spread of the virus not only by providing care and treatment for the infected, but also putting their and their families’ lives on the line to ensure the safety of their patients. While we salute their efforts, already there are young budding students, who are willing to undergo the rigorous study and practice required to become a medical professional.
Competition in India for medical seats is rife, and it can be very difficult to secure a spot at the top medical colleges for most students. However, that does not signal the end of their dreams. There are many other countries that offer MBBS degree programmes, at a fraction of the cost of the big-name universities. Here are a few countries doing so-
Ukraine – An eastern-European country enveloped by Russia, Slovakia, Hungary and Poland; Ukraine has gained popularity amongst students for its affordable yet recognised medical programmes. The Odesa National University and Donetsk National Medical University are some of the prominent names.
Russia – Russia has very recently risen in popularity among MBBS aspirants owing to its low cost of living and low tuition fee required to complete an MBBS degree programme. Degrees from certain Russian universities are recognised by the Medical Council of India as well, which is a very important aspect.
Germany – Germany has become quite popular for its engineering institutes, where students can study while paying a very low tuition fee. However, while the cost of living remains a bit on the higher side, German medical education institutions are also quite prominent and can prove to be a stellar choice for MBBS aspirants.
The Philippines – A country that isn’t seen very frequently on study-abroad lists, Philippines has garnered quite a lot of attention for the range of universities that located there that provide an MBBS degree programme. Furthermore, the cost-of-living is quite low, and so are the fees. Another added benefit is that the North-American format of teaching is followed, so students are well adapted and prepared for pursuing further education in the USA or elsewhere.
