Visa Crunch

Immigration Australia: Everything Indian Candidates Need To Check Before Applying

Due to its simple processes, clear rules, and improved immigration policies, a huge number of Indians are now eager to immigrate to Australia.

According to homeaffairs.gov.au, 6,60,350 Indian-born persons lived in Australia at the end of June 2019, making them the third-largest migrant group in Australia after the United Kingdom and China. This is a short article on how to obtain an Australia Permanent Resident (PR) Visa, which allows you to reside in Australia indefinitely.

PR visa holders also receive a five-year travel permit that permits them to freely depart and return to Australia. Furthermore, as a permanent resident, you have the same privileges and rights as a citizen, such as accessibility to subsidized or free medical care and legal services.

Requirements

If you are applying for a permanent residency visa in Australia, you must meet the following requirements.

Documents

  • To avoid complications, keep the appropriate documentation on hand. Aside from school, work, and ordinary travel paperwork, you will require the two primary documents listed below.
  • IELTS (International English Language Testing System) score – To assess an applicant’s English competence.
  • An evaluating authority’s skill assessment result – To determine how skilled an applicant is in a specific sector.

Apply for an appropriate visa

It is critical to remember that there are many PR visas available in Australia. As a result, the applicant must carefully select the one that is best suited to their requirements. Currently, the Australian government grants over 30 visa types to Indians. Here are a few examples.

Skill Stream Visa

It is intended for workers with the skills, degrees, and entrepreneurship that are most in-demand in the Australian economy. Its seven components are listed below.

  • Business Innovation and Investment
  • Distinguished talent
  • Employer-Sponsored
  • Global Talent (Independent)
  • Regional
  • Skilled Independent
  • State/Territory Nominated

Family and Child Stream Visa

Close family members of Australian citizens, permanent residents, and qualifying New Zealand citizens may migrate permanently through the Family Stream. It not only allows partners and parents to apply, but also extra family members such as elderly dependent relatives, caregivers, remaining relatives, and orphan relatives.

Children of Australian citizens, permanent residents, and qualified New Zealand citizens are eligible for visas under the Child stream. The Child visa is divided into two categories: Child visas and Adoption visas.

Special Eligibility Visa

This enables previous residents and certain people who served in the Australian Defence Force to become permanent residents of Australia.

List of Skilled Occupations

Once you’ve decided on a specific PR visa depending on your needs, you must select a vocation from SOL (Skilled Occupation List).

System based on points

Once you’ve decided on a vocation, you can apply directly to Australia’s point-based system. You must submit an Expression of Interest in the Australian Skill Select System online for the same. It is a web-based system that saves and maintains an applicant’s profile information such as name, age, gender, work experience, language ability, qualification, and so on.

The method generates points based on these parameters, with a minimum of 60 points. The more points you have, the more likely you are to receive an invitation to apply for a PR visa.

Character and Health Requirements

To obtain a PR visa, an applicant’s character and integrity must be strong, and he or she must be mentally fit to work and live in Australia.

How can I obtain a Permanent Resident Visa from India?

The applicant can apply for a PR Visa by following the steps below:

  • Keep the documents handy
  • Submit the Expression of Interest
  • Get an assessment for the profile
  • An assessment grid, which requires a minimum score of 60 points
  • Submit the application
  • Once nominated, an ITR invitation is received
  • Apply and go to Australia

IELTS Requirements

The Australian government places a high value on IELTS scores during immigration formalities. It might have a significant impact on your overall score; thus, you must maintain a solid IELTS score.

If you do not want to take this exam, you can take alternative English language tests such as TOEFL, PTE, and so on. If you do not want to take an English proficiency test, a state nomination is required for visa acceptance.
