Canada: Provincial Nomination Program

Provincial Nomination Program (PNP) is one of the fastest-growing Canadian immigration pathways. Around 200,000 immigrants are estimated to obtain permanent residence status in the years 2020-2022.

What is PNP?

If a candidate is interested in a specific province or territory, they can opt for the Provincial Nomination Program. In PNP, Candidates are selected based on the local labor market needs of the certain province or territory the candidate is applying in. Most provinces and territories take part in PNP. Once candidates receive the provincial nomination, they are awarded additional 600 CRS points, which guarantees them an Express Entry invites for a Permanent Residence.

Each province of Canada has different market needs which determine the candidate’s eligibility and the chances of being accepted in PNP. For example, some provinces would require job experience in certain fields, whereas other provinces will require proficiency in French. While applying for a PNP, candidates must submit all their information, which proves that they have the required skills, experience, and education and will be able to fulfill the necessary criteria of the province.

How to apply for PNP?

These are the certain steps one needs to follow to apply for a Provincial Nomination:

1. Finding out the Eligibility Criteria: In the provinces, various sub-streams prioritize applicants with various skills. Interested applicants must select a stream that suits their occupation.

2. Submitting a PNP application: PNP application should consist of all the required documents and should be submitted online or by mail to the province.

3. Provincial Nominee Certificate: If the candidate fulfills the criteria required by the province, a provincial nominee certificate is issued.

4. Applying for Permanent Residence: Once the candidate has received a provincial nominee certificate, it can be used to apply for permanent residence in the federal government’s express entry system.

Receiving a Provincial Nomination results in additional 600 CRS points awarded to the applicant, which guarantee that the applicant receive an invitation to apply in subsequent Express Entry draw.
