Due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic, Canada has recently launched a new portal using which they can confirm permanent resident status without in-person interviews. Canada’s immigration minister, Marco Mendicino believes that the new online portal would make it easier and quicker to confirm permanent resident status.
The new portal has been developed by Deloitte which is a multinational professional services company and has its headquarters in Canada.
New permanent residents will be able to declare that they are in Canada, confirm their address, submit a photo for their PR card, get access to their proof of permanent resident status and share their personal information with Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) with help of the new portal.
Each individual must have their own profile. Family members will each need their own username and password.
How does the portal work?
Once the immigration application is approved, the applicant will receive an invitation to confirm whether or not they want to use the portal by IRCC in their e-mail. IRCC will then create an account for the applicant. After the applicant receives a confirmation, they will send another email with a link to the portal and instructions on how to sign in with the applicant’s username and temporary password. Using the applicant’s temporary password, the applicant can sign in and create a new password and will be able to confirm whether they are in Canada, update their address and upload your photo.
IRCC will review and accept the applicant’s photo which they have submitted. Once the photo is accepted, the applicant will receive their PR card within a week. The PR card will be sent by mail to the address in Canada which was provided by the applicant in the portal.
