Canada extends the ban on direct flights from India until August 21, Indians can still go via a “third country” route

According to a government of Canada announcement, flights from India have been suspended until August 21, 2021. The Canadian government has extended the previous deadline of July 21 for the suspension of India-Canada direct flights in its latest worldwide travel warning. In light of the fatal coronavirus pandemic, the extension is necessary.

During a press conference, transport minister Omar Alghabra said that the extension was necessary because of the Delta variant, which is the most common strain of COVID-19 globally. “While progress is being made, India’s position remains critical,” he added. “The decision is based on recommendations from the Public Health Agency of Canada, and it will best protect Canadians against the Delta strain, which is widespread in India.”

Indian passengers, on the other hand, who must fly to Canada can do so via an “indirect route.” Canada will not accept the COVID-19 molecular test report from India, according to the updated official travel advisory. As a result, before continuing their journey to Canada, the tourists must be tested for COVID-19 in a “third nation.”

Travelers who have previously tested positive for the COVID-19 virus and are flying from India to Canada must now confirm a COVID test performer between 14 to 90 days before departure, according to the advisory. “Indian passengers must get this documentation in a third nation before continuing their journey to Canada. According to the advisory, one may need to seek entrance and remain in a third country for at least 14 days.”

The new COVID-19 rules enforced by Canadian authorities have contributed to the already-existing difficulties faced by Indian travellers seeking to visit the country for professional, educational, or other purposes.

Some nations may place Indian travellers in quarantine for a minimum of 14 days following their arrival. The duration may vary from country to country but the travellers should be prepared to do so as and when required by the third nations. However, this will cause them to miss their deadlines and increase their expenses too.
