Candidates who had received prior provincial nominations were selected for the Canada’s newest Express Entry draw, which took place on August 4. 512 applicants with a minimum score of 760 were invited by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). Candidates in the provincial nominee program (PNP) earn 600 points automatically when they receive their provincial nomination, which explains the relatively high score. 462 Express Entry candidates with scores of at least 734 were invited to apply for permanent residence (PR) in the previous PNP invitation round. IRCC has also published a tie break rule. Although, this is merely a procedural requirement; it does not imply that there was any actual tie. 5th March 2021 was the deadline for the candidates who had the minimum cut off score, those who applied thereafter were not considered.
What is an Express Entry?
The Canadian Experience Class, Federal Skilled Worker Program, and Federal Skilled Trades Program all use Express Entry, a points-based framework that controls immigration applications for the three Federal High Skilled programs. Express Entry is also used by some PNPs to encourage candidates to apply for provincial nominations. Individuals will be given a score based on the Comprehensive Ranking System if you are qualified for an Express Entry-managed program (CRS). The CRS assigns points depending on several aspects, including skilled work experience, education, age, official language proficiency, and others.
1200 is the maximum score in CRS. Apart from PNP candidates, who receive an automatic 600 CRS points for receiving a provincial nomination, most of the applicants are not able to score more than 500 points. IRCC invites candidates with the highest score to apply for PR.
Reason for a PNP draw
IRCC has only held Express Entry draws for the PNP and the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) since the beginning of 2021. The IRCC has tried to admit candidates who are already living in Canada. Even though PNP candidates are not necessarily in Canada, at least in the same numbers as CEC candidates, the federal government should continue to collaborate with its regional partners. Immigration is a shared responsibility in Canada. Various studies have shown that immigrants who are chosen based on local labour market needs prosper.
Outland PNP applicants are also less concerned about travel restrictions. This is due to the fact that on June 21, Canada started opening its border to approved permanent residents. The candidates who are invited today may have to wait months for their Confirmation of Permanent Residence (COPR), which is the official final document required to become a landed permanent resident in Canada.
Data shows that the invitations for Express Entry are far higher than those of 2019. When compared with the same period last year, the number of Invitations to Apply (ITAs) has steadily increased. This indicates that the IRCC is stepping up its efforts to accept 108,500 newbies through the Express Entry system by 2021. A total of 99,316 PNP and CEC candidates have been invited so far this year. Based on the nature of CEC and PNP-only draws, the minimal level score requirements have fluctuated. Because the draws are focused in one silo of applicants, CEC draws usually have lower cut-offs. As a result, larger draw sizes allow IRCC to welcome more applicants, lowering the score. On the contrary, the PNP applicants automatically score 600 points when they are nominated for a province. Therefore, PNP draws will always be higher.
