The Expression of Interest draws in Ontario are the largest to date

On July 13, Ontario hosted three major Provincial Nominee Program (PNPs) draws in remote regions, targeting foreign workers, international students, and candidates with a job offer. The Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) received 1.685 applications from people who had profiles in the new Expression of Interest (EOI) pool. Invited candidates may be eligible for one of two streams of Employer Job Offers. This is the most invites sent through the Employer Job Offer streams in 2021 to date.

Candidates who may be qualified for the Foreign Worker Stream received 1,211 invites in the largest draw. A score of at least 33 was required for these candidates. There were no specific occupations or location restrictions for this draw because it was a generic draw.

Another 431 students were asked to apply for a nomination in the International Student Stream’s general draw. To be invited, these individuals needed an EOI score of at least 62.

The OINP also sent 43 invitations to immigrants who had registered for the Regional Immigration Pilot and would be eligible for the same two Employer Offer streams. The province also announced directions for filing complete PNP applications at the same time that the current draw results were released. If one fails to submit this form, their application will be returned as incomplete, the application fee will be reimbursed, and they will lose their chance to apply for the program.

Foreign Worker Stream

Foreign nationals with an eligible work offer from a company in Ontario can apply for the Ontario Foreign Worker Stream under the Employer Job Offer category. As long as they match the eligibility conditions, they are not required to apply from within Canada.

One must have the equivalent of two years of work experience in a skilled occupation, have an approved employment offer in Ontario, and want to immigrate to the province, among other requirements, to be eligible.

To apply for a PNP, one must first create an Expression of Interest (EOI) profile on the Ontario website.

The profile will be added to the EOI pool once it has been registered. Based on the information the applicant provides, Ontario will assign them a score.

International Student Stream

Foreign nationals with an eligible work offer from an employer in Ontario are eligible to apply for the Ontario International Student stream under the Employer Job Offer category.

Among other requirements, they must have finished a program at a Canadian Designated Learning Institution, have an approved job offer in Ontario, and want to immigrate to the province.

How to earn points for immigration to Ontario?

Ontario evaluates EOI profiles according to a set of human capital indicators that the province has determined are significant in identifying immigrants with the ability to succeed. The job offer’s skill level, as well as their Canadian work experience, earn them points. The province assigns points using the National Occupational Classification (NOC) system.

Depending on which stream one applies for, the OINP scoring methodology differs. It considers wage, education, official language proficiency, and the place in which they study or work, in addition to their skill level and job experience. In addition, the province has the option of allocating 10 points to respond to labor market demands.
