Protocols for vaccinated travellers entering Canada

As COVID-19 cases have dropped across the world, quarantine rules for travellers were recently relaxed in Canada as long as they were vaccinated. The travellers who could not travel earlier include international students, permanent residents (and their family members), and temporary foreign workers. But now, under the new regulations, vaccinated travellers are perhaps allowed to enter the country without having to quarantine for 14 days.

Holders of a valid Confirmation of Permanent Residence (COPR) too are now free from the requirement and may travel to Canada.

Patty Hajdu, Canada’s health minister, said the country is working on a “proof of vaccination” that the federal government will approve.

They must have gotten vaccinations approved by the Canadian government to be considered fully immunized in Canada. This implies that at least 14 days before entering Canada, one should have had two doses of the Pfizer, Moderna, or AstraZeneca vaccines, or authorized combinations.

Make sure that one has the appropriate paperwork for both doses if they’ve received two doses from two separate jurisdictions. If they do not fulfill the entrance criteria for fully vaccinated travellers, they will need to arrange for quarantine before travelling to Canada.

Passengers must take a COVID-19 exam within 72 hours of landing in Canada. Upon arrival, they must also pre-register for your COVID-19 test.

Travellers should make sure that they have the ArriveCAN app on your phone. The following information must be entered into the application:

  • Contact and travel information
  • Quarantine plan
  • 14-day travel history
  • Evidence of vaccination in English or French
  • COVID-19 symptom self-assessment
  • Confirmation of a negative COVID-19 test result or a positive result took between 14 and 90 days before departure

What may be expected at the Canadian border

  • One may be requested to submit information and documentation, such as a negative COVID-19 test and evidence of immunization, when you arrive in Canada.
  • Make sure to have the ArriveCAN receipt on your phone as you approach the border officer.
  • One may be requested to show the police this receipt.
  • They’ll also have to answer questions about your immunization, as well as questions regarding their eligibility and health screening.
  • They must complete your COVID-19 test on-site if testing services are available upon arrival. If you don’t, you’ll be given a home test kit to use when you get to your ultimate destination.
  • Those who have COVID-19 symptoms or are determined to be ineligible for the travel restrictions must follow the directions given by the government official.

As soon as they arrive in Canada, here’s what they need to know

They will not need to stay at a government-approved facility if they are exempt from the travel restrictions, do not have any symptoms of the virus, and are fully vaccinated. They won’t have to quarantine themselves, and won’t have to undergo another test on the day after you arrive.

For children under the age of 12, no vaccination has been licensed in Canada. When children travel to Canada, they may be required to quarantine when they return home. There will be none for them to stay at a hotel.

If one has received a home test kit instead of a COVID-19 test when they arrive, fill it out and submit it to the lab. If the test results come back positive, they’ll need to quarantine and separate themselves from the rest of the world.
