Visa Crunch

For overseas students studying in Canada, travel and visa requirements are unaffected

Despite the prolongation of the border shut down until July 21, International students in Canada will be permitted to enter the country with a valid visa. Canadian citizens and permanent residents, as well as work permit holders and some international students, are still eligible for exemptions. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the expanded border restriction will keep out any non-essential travellers from neighboring nations, including the US.

Regardless of the fact that Canada is no longer processing study visa applications for the autumn semester of 2021, overseas students in Canada who applied by May 15 will get approval (or refusal) by August 6.

As of June 21, approved immigrants can go to Canada

Confirmation of Permanent Residence (COPR) holders are now allowed to enter Canada. Since March 2020, when Canada imposed coronavirus travel restrictions, more than 23,000 confirmations of permanent residence have been issued.

In order to reissue new COPRs, IRCC is working with expired COPR holders. Those who have been accepted to come to Canada by IRCC are given a COPR. This indicates that the person has fulfilled the program’s requirements, paid the fees, and passed health, security, and criminality tests. They can fly to Canada to start their new life with a COPR.

According to Canadian government data, a total of 23,000 COPRs have been unable to travel to Canada since the Canadian government introduced coronavirus travel restrictions in March 2020.

Canadian government: If COPR has expired, do not travel to Canada

More information on when and how to acquire a new COPR will be provided on the IRCC website soon, according to the Canadian government.

COPRs have a validity of only a year. They are linked to the applicant’s passport and medical examination for immigration. Many people have been unable to go to Canada because of the coronavirus or because they do not meet one of Canada’s travel requirements. Their COPR has now expired as a result of this. However, they shall not have to go through the immigration procedure again, but they will require a fresh valid COPR from IRCC in order to go to Canada.

COPR holders will be required to obey Canada’s travel restrictions upon entry, which may include a 14-day quarantine period. Those who have been completely vaccinated, however, will be excluded from the quarantine obligation, according to the federal authorities.
