Leicester’s De Montfort University, one of the UK Pavilion’s founding partners at Expo 2020 Dubai, officially opened its Dubai campus with an event on December 9.
The new campus building, which is “strategically located” in Dubai’s International Academic City, will feature state-of-the-art services, facilities and equipment.
A 700-capacity auditorium is on campus, outdoor and indoor sports facilities and student recreational areas, as well as special architecture, design and fashion studios.
The branch is the institution’s first international campus outside of the UK.
“Developing graduates for successful trajectories beyond university is of critical importance”
Courses on offer will include Cyber Security, Architecture, Psychology, Accounting and Finance, Engineering, Human Resource Management and Fashion Marketing – both undergraduate and postgraduate.
“We know that regardless of discipline, developing graduates for successful trajectories beyond university is of critical importance,” said DMU Dubai provost Manjeet Ridon.
“Enabling our graduates to have a positive impact, whether that be through creating value that is economic, social, cultural, or environmental – or indeed a mixture of each, is the embodiment of our success,” Ridon added.
The campus promises to bring its “sustainable and innovative approach to support the personal and professional development of students”, as well as economic growth in the UAE and wider Gulf region.
During the ceremony, vice-chancellor of DMU Katie Normington unveiled a plaque commemorating the opening.
“A campus in Dubai offers, for us, an unparalleled seat at the world’s table, a place from which we can really contribute to setting a global agenda,” Normington said.
“We have a lot to offer to this city – UK higher education is recognised as some of the best in the world and we pride ourselves on the quality of our teaching,” she added.
The campus will be run in partnership with the academic services provider for DMU Dubai, Study World Higher Education Services.
The opening of the campus has been announced in tandem with DMU’s participation at Expo 2020 Dubai – the upcoming Knowledge and Learning week will see the university play a “key role” hosting debates with industry experts from around the globe on the future of education.
