Canada conducts the biggest ever Express Entry draw – 5000 ITAs issued for permanent residence.

Canada has held the biggest Express Entry draw in its history on 18th November and has issued Invitations to Apply (ITA) to a whopping 5000 candidates in the express entry pool. This is Canada’s biggest draw ever, surpassing the previous record, which was of 4500 ITAs issued in a single express entry draw.

The required CRS score to be issued ITAs in this draw is 472. Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) have been conducting express entry draws at an interval of two weeks since 2nd September 2020.

Canada’s three main economic classes are – the Federal Skilled Workers Program, The Federal Skilled Trades Program, and the Canadian Experience Class. ITA’s are issued to a certain number of top-ranked candidates in the Express Entry pools to apply for their permanent residence in the regular draws that usually takes place every two weeks and incorporates the vast majority of candidates from the three main economic classes managed by express entry.

Candidates with a total score of 472 in the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) were issued the invites in this draw. The required CRS score increased by 1 point since the last express entry draw, which took place in October.

The cut-off CRS score can be influenced by certain factors such as the size of the draw and the time span between draws. This implies that the CRS cut-off score would be lower if the pool size is bigger and if there is less time span between two draws and vice-versa. Factors such as age, education, skilled work experience, and proficiency in English and French also play a major role in determining the CRS score.

The standard time that is taken for a permanent residence application filed through the Express Entry System to process takes around six months, as stated by the Government of Canada.

In this draw, IRCC used its Tie Break Rule, which was introduced in June. This new rule ranks the candidates based on the date and time at which their profiles were first submitted if their CRS scores are tied. Thus it prioritizes candidates who have their profiles in the pool for a longer time. This draw, which took place on 19th November, closed on October 27 at 06:18:11 UTC. Thus, the candidates with a CRS score of 472 or above and those who have submitted their applications before the said timestamp received an ITA in this invitation round.

This new draw has added 5000 new ITAs, and that makes this year’s total number of ITAs issued to be around 92,350, which will make this year a record-breaking year as so many ITAs haven’t been issued before.
