Alberta has established two new Canadian immigration channels and rebranded its Provincial Nominee Program the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP).
The Rural Renewal Stream and the Rural Entrepreneur Stream were added to the current five streams offered by the newly renamed AAIP in a February 16 update. In addition, the province renamed three of its existing streams:
- The International Graduate Entrepreneur Immigration Stream has been renamed the Graduate Entrepreneur Immigration Stream.
- The Foreign Graduate Entrepreneur Visa Stream has replaced the Foreign Graduate Start-Up Visa Stream.
- The Farm Stream has replaced the Self-Employed Farmer Stream.
The government stated that no changes were made to the program requirements for the existing streams. The revision was announced by Alberta Premier Jason Kenney, a former federal immigration minister, during the Fairness for Newcomers Summit in Calgary. for promoting newcomer success and driving economic growth in the province.
Kenney said: “We’re determined to get more than our share of newcomers. “Newcomers don’t take jobs away from Albertans but help to create jobs. “They create additional demand, they create additional wealth and, very typically, they create additional businesses that hire people.”
Rural Renewal Stream
The Alberta immigration Rural Renewal Stream allows competent individuals with a job offer from an Alberta employer to apply through the AAIP to work in a designated rural Alberta municipality.
Alberta established the stream to aid in the recruiting and retention of newcomers to the province’s rural districts. To become a part of the stream, communities must apply. They must have a population of fewer than 100,000 people, be located outside of the Calgary and Edmonton Census Metropolitan Areas, and have at least one employer looking to fill open permanent positions.
Candidates must have a permanent, full-time employment offer in addition to meeting other qualifications such as work experience, language proficiency, education, and settlement funds.
Rural Entrepreneur Stream
The Alberta immigration Rural Entrepreneur Stream is designed for competent and skilled entrepreneurs who seek to start a new or purchase an existing firm in a rural Alberta region. Communities must have fewer than 100,000 people and be located outside of the Calgary and Edmonton Census Metropolitan Areas.
Applicants must conduct an exploratory visit, as well as meet the work experience, education, and language requirements, as well as have a net worth of at least $300,000 and spend at least $200,000. They must own at least 51% of a new firm or 100% of an existing business, and they must create at least one employee for a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
Candidates that have had their Business Applications approved to sign a Business Performance Agreement and are awarded a work permit. They must then spend at least one year in Alberta building their firm. They are nominated for permanent residency once their business is established and they have met the criteria of their BPA.
