Saskatchewan Launches Agent Training Program To “Solidify” Partnerships; To Attract International Students

The Saskatchewan government has developed a dedicated Agent Training Program, which it claims will “solidify” connections with leading recruitment agents and help the province continue to attract students from around the world.

The program will provide agents with training on Canadian laws and immigration, as well as an in-depth understanding of the advantages of studying, living, and working in Saskatchewan province. The Saskatchewan Agent Training Program contributes to Saskatchewan’s Expansion Plan’s economic recovery and population growth goals by expanding the number of overseas students studying in the province. This program is an important component of the new International Education Strategy, which assists the postsecondary education industry in meeting student recruiting targets. This program was initiated in November 2021.

The major goals and objectives of the program are to have well-trained recruitment professionals provide reliable and high-quality assistance so that prospective students are further assisted and advised when considering the province as a study destination, according to the government.

A Saskatchewan Student Ambassador Program and a ‘Discover Saskatchewan’ learning opportunity in summer 2022 were also part of the worldwide strategy. The Canadian Bureau for International Education has agreed to provide the training, which will reach up to 270 recruitment agents by March 2024. The province’s educational institutions expect that the program would help them attract high-quality students and diversify their campuses.

“Government support through this new program will strengthen the University of Saskatchewan’s presence and reputation internationally,” University of Saskatchewan president and vice-chancellor Peter Stoicheff said.

University of Saskatchewan president and vice-chancellor Peter Stoicheff explained that the initiative will help recruit high-quality students to university campuses of Canada, diversify perspectives in classrooms, and improve the educational experience for everyone, all of which will add to the growth of the province’s workforce.

The University of Regina is thrilled to be collaborating with the province on an effort that will improve recruiting agents’ ability to help international students interested in studying here, according to its president and vice-chancellor, Jeff Keshen. He explained that the initiative will “help recruit high-quality students to our campus, diversify perspectives in our classes, and improve the educational experience for everyone,” all of which will “add to the growth of our province’s workforce.”

Making sure that the agents are well trained to appropriately promote what the province has to offer extends the increased service that Saskatchewan institutions are known for.

By giving this training to agents, students will be properly treated from the initial point of contact with that agent until they graduate. President and CEO Larry Rosia stated that Saskatchewan Polytechnic has strived to enhance foreign student enrollment, develop study abroad options, and participate in international project work. It is vital to ensure that today’s pupils have the cultural competencies necessary to comprehend and communicate with people from diverse cultures.
