Canada is the latest country to authorize India-made Covaxin, allowing anyone who has been vaccinated with the vaccine to enter the country as long as they follow the rules. First and foremost, anyone travelling to Canada should be properly vaccinated.
From November 30, passengers who have been vaccinated with Covaxin will be allowed to enter the country. Covaxin, manufactured by Bharat Biotech in Hyderabad, India was authorized by Canada on November 19 and will help to enter Canada for many Indian travellers.
Canada will begin allowing international travellers who are completely vaccinated with World Health Organization (WHO) jabs, including Covaxin, beginning November 30. Only Covishield, an Astra Zeneca vaccine made by the Serum Institute of India (SII), has been licensed for travel purposes among the vaccinations used in India.
Health Canada said on November 29 that the country will “expand its list of accepted vaccines for the purposes of entry into Canada and exemption from some testing and quarantine requirements. The list will include Sinopharm, Sinovac, and COVAXIN, matching the World Health Organization (WHO) Emergency Use Listing (EUL).”
Even as this policy takes effect, India and Canada continue to talk about mutual vaccine certificate recognition. Indian officials have also indicated their persistent concern about the “bottleneck” caused by Canada’s tight testing requirements, which need a negative RT-PCR report from a single laboratory at Delhi airport within 18 hours of boarding the flight in order to enter the nation.
Those who are completely vaccinated will also be eligible for other benefits, such as not being subjected to testing upon arrival and avoiding a mandated 14-day quarantine period, which includes a Covid-19 test on the eighth day.
The passenger must have had their second dose of the vaccine series at least 14 days prior to arrival into
Canada to be deemed fully vaccinated. These more relaxed safeguards take effect as countries such as Canada reevaluate their travel plans in light of worries about the Omicron strain of the coronavirus. Foreign nationals from seven southern African countries have already been barred from entering Canada, with exceptions for Canadian citizens and permanent residents.
If those who have gotten two doses of the vaccination to take the third dose of an mRNA vaccine in Canada, provinces such as Ontario, Canada’s most populous, are also offering the standardized vaccine certificate.
Aside from Bharat Biotech, China’s Sinopharm and Sinovac vaccines against Covid-19 have also been licensed by Canada. Some travellers who are now exempt from entry criteria will only be able to enter Canada if they are inoculated with the approved vaccines as of January 15 next year, according to the statement.
