Summary report of Canada’s PNP immigration for August’21

During the month of August, the Provincial Nominee Programs (PNP) of Canada issued over 3,400 invitations to apply for provincial nomination.

Except for Quebec and Nunavut, however, almost every Canadian province and territory has its own Provincial Nominee Program (PNP). Having their own immigration programs allows provincial governments to choose the best candidates to achieve their local labor market needs and to handle the regional integration of the immigrant population within their jurisdiction. Each province sets its own criteria for determining which foreign workers are eligible for permanent residence in Canada under its own PNP.

At least one PNP stream in most collaborating provinces and territories is aligned with the federal Express Entry system, which is Canada’s primary source of economic immigration. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has held PNP-specific Express Entry draws every two weeks on average so far in 2021. IRCC held two Express Entry draws in August, targeting PNP candidates, issuing 512 ITAs on August 4 and 463 on August 18. Despite the fact that the number of Express Entry invitations issued this month was lower than in June and July, the number of invitations issued through Express Entry is at record highs. This year, the IRCC has issued over 100,000 ITAs.

Saskatchewan

The Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP) held four invitation rounds in August, issuing 948 invitations to apply for a provincial nomination through the Express Entry and Occupations In-Demand sub-categories of the International Skilled Worker Category. This is a significant increase from the province’s 575 invitations issued in July.

British Columbia

The province has invited over 900 candidates to apply for a provincial nomination through the Express Entry British Columbia, Skills Immigration channels in the last month, roughly linking the number of invitations issued in the previous months.

Ontario

Through the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program, the province held five draws this month (OINP). On August 6, the province made the first draw, issuing two invitations to apply under the Employer Job Offer: Job Opportunities for Foreign Workers and Employers: International Student Streams These were selected as part of the Economic Mobility Pathways Project’s targeted draw. The province held its second-ever In-Demand Skills stream draw on August 11 as part of its new intake system, inviting 48 immigrants. Candidates had to be eligible for the positions and have job offers in the targeted industries. Finally, on August 26, the OINP issued 20 invitations to candidates with scores ranging from 142 to 200 through its Entrepreneur Stream. In total, 875 immigrants were invited to apply for a provincial nomination by the province of Ontario.

Alberta

The Express Entry Stream of the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) held the largest draw of 2021 in August. The draw took place on August 10th, and 396 candidates with CRS scores of at least 300 were invited.

Manitoba

In August, the province of Manitoba held a draw with three streams: Skilled Workers in Manitoba, International Education Stream, and Skilled Workers Overseas.

Prince Edward Island

On August 19, Prince Edward Island held a pre-scheduled draw and issued a total of 161 invitations to immigration applicants. Express Entry and Labour Impact candidates received the majority of the invitations at 152. The remaining nine invitations were given to Business Impact candidates who scored at least 75 points.
