On June 9, Canada launched a fresh Express Entry draw, wherein 940 people were invited to apply for permanent residence on June 9.
All of the applicants who were invited had been nominated by a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP). Because all PNP applicants in the Express Entry pool got 600 points added to their score immediately, the scoring cutoff was set relatively high at 711. The lowest-scoring candidate would have received just 111 points if (s)he had not been nominated.
Whether or not there was a tie-break rule as per administrative regulations. Candidates with the minimum score were only invited if their Express Entry profile was submitted by February 16, 2021.
Canada invited 500 applicants to the previous PNP-only draw, with a scoring minimum of 713 points. The number of invites nearly doubled, and the cutoff score dropped two points.
What impact may Canada’s COVID-19 progress have on Express Entry?
In Canada, the COVID-19 forecast is positive. In many areas, the number of new COVID-19 infections has dropped considerably, and immunizations have been ramping up. Almost 65% of Canada’s population has already gotten at least one dosage. Many provinces have pledged that by the end of June, all people who desire the vaccine would be able to obtain at least one dose, with complete immunization following in either August or later.
The pandemic is still wreaking havoc on Express Entry drawings. IRCC has only staged Express Entry drawings that target individuals who are presumable already in Canada since the beginning of 2021. This technique serves two purposes: one, to satisfy Canada’s annual immigration objectives, and the other, to avoid coronavirus-related travel restrictions and other service closures that would impact overseas candidates.
Thanks to the 27,332 major candidates invited on February 13, Canada has issued more invites this year than at the same time in 2020. In an email to CIC News, IRCC said that roughly 87% of the candidates compete for their applications within the 90-day deadline.
Candidates for the PNP and the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) can be found in great numbers throughout Canada. This is due to the fact that PNPs frequently demand job experience or education from the nominating province, whereas CEC applicants must have at least one year of work experience in Canada.
As a result of the 600-point reward, PNP drawings will have substantially higher scoring requirements. Due to huge draw numbers in a very narrow pool of candidates, CEC drawings will have lower score cutoffs.
