The Dutch government recently announced that they are exempting the travel ban on passenger flights from India, along with South America, Central America, and South Africa. Upon getting tested negative for COVID-19 shall these travelers be allowed to enter the country. However, the Netherlands mandatory quarantine rule that has been imposed since June 1 still applies to travelers especially from high-risk countries such as India.
Under this regulation, visitors need to quarantine themselves for five days in a hotel, a private facility, or any other arrangement that keeps them aloof during this period. There is no enforcement by the government about where shall the travelers’ quarantine which allows them an option to stay with relatives as long as they have a separate room with strict supervision.
Mandatory COVID-19 PCR test results to be taken up to 24 hours before boarding the flight. In addition, the quarantine period which earlier used to be 10 days is now reduced to 5 days only when these travelers provide a negative PCR test on the fifth day.
The quarantine is obligatory for passengers arriving from the worst-affected countries including Argentina, Bahrain, Brazil, India, and South Africa to name a few.
This relief is only for the Dutch nationals and residents, and those from the European Union and Schengen Area. The rest of the people who still choose to travel to the Netherlands need to fall into one of the exemption categories. This clarification needs to be brought to attention as South African nationals are still banned to travel in this country due to a ban imposed by the European Union.
Airlines will now be observed to increase the frequency go their flights. As it served them bare sustenance during the lockdown, KLM is now set to ramp up flights to and from South Africa.
Airfreight transport has been exempted from the flight ban regardless of the COVID-19 situation elsewhere.
Emirates recently announced that their flights shall remain inactive from India until June 30 as it is worse hit by the second wave of the pandemic which recorded most cases in history. As if this wasn’t enough, the passengers who have transited through India in the past two weeks will not be allowed to travel from anywhere else to the UAE. Incoming passenger transportation from India to the UAE has thus been suspended until June 14.
