Citizenship tests in Canada are now finally available again online after they were canceled 8 months ago.
Canadian citizenship tests are conducted to make sure that the applicants have enough knowledge about Canada to become its citizens and thus, the tests are mandatory for all citizenship applicants between the age of 18 and 54 according to the Canadian Citizenship Act. Having Canadian citizenship is important as it gives the citizen a right to vote and make them eligible to apply for a Canadian passport.
Online citizenship tests will be available first to those whose tests were canceled and those who are currently on the waiting list due to the pandemic.
Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) IRCC had been working on upgrading the citizenship program before the Coronavirus pandemic and will be testing their new platform for a certain period. After performance monitoring proves that the platform is up to the standards, IRCC will be inviting more citizenship applicants to use their online citizenship testing platform.
All the candidates who are eligible to appear for the test will be notified by e-mail and are also required to submit proof of their identity and are supposed to take a photo of themselves and their ID documents with a webcam before the online citizenship test gets started. A time period of 21 days is allocated to all the online citizenship test applicants who can complete the test according to the date and time of their preference.
The format of the online test will be quite similar to the in-person test as all the candidates will have 30 minutes to answer 20 questions.
According to data collected by IRCC, almost about 85,000 people are in queue to take the citizenship test as of September 7, 2020.
