Birmingham City University, an accredited British Higher Education Institution located in Birmingham, United Kingdom, has unveiled a new MSc degree which focuses on Advancing Diabetes Care, which the university will be providing in partnership with a local team.
Furthermore, approximately 100 Indian students have also enrolled for the online course, and these Indians will be sponsored by a pharmaceutical company located in Mumbai, Lupin Pharmaceuticals.
The onset of COVID-19 has meant that synergetic learning that goes beyond physical boundaries has become the need of the hour. Furthermore, the nature of the epidemic, and the way the virus interacts with patients who have existing conditions such as diabetes, means that this program could not have been launched at a better time.
The course will focus specifically on enabling medical students and healthcare professionals hone their specialist skills and knowledge and be better able to respond to and to take care of individuals with diabetes. Especially for India, which apart from the recent COVID-19 epidemic, has been seeing the diabetic pandemic ravaging through the population since a long time, and this is specifically evidenced by the numbers- approximately 77 million people in India live with diabetes.
This new collaboration will empower these young medical doctors to learn and actively implement their skills towards the caretaking of individuals with diabetes. Furthermore, the Birmingham City University offers students the flexibility to tailor this course specifically to fit the student’s aspirations and career goals.
The university is a relatively new university, having gained university status in 1992. However, since then the university has grown to accommodate a student body of over 22,000 students. Over 20% of students at the university are international students, which may also be partly due to the fact that the University offers lucrative scholarships and funding options for both undergraduate and postgraduate degrees. Among the range of scholarships available, for postgraduate students, there is a wide range of options. Notable is that, the securing of above 80% marks in their undergraduate degree, attracts a scholarship of over £1500!
The university boasts a strong connection with India, with its student’s union boasting an active Indian and Sikh society. Furthermore, they have agents situated in almost all major cities of India, so applying to the university should be a breeze for most students.
Online courses such as these, provided by renowned universities allow for international students to make the most of the downtime caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Also, as many students defer their plans to study abroad, or are switching countries, these valuable courses provide a stellar opportunity to upskill.
