This year’s Times Higher Education College Rankings is out with the top 3 positions awarded to Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Yale University respectively. Harvard University has secured the first position for the 4th time in a row.
All the universities part of the Ivy League are among the top 15 schools in the chart. Here, Brown University tied for the 5th place, Princeton University got 7th, Cornell University 9th, Dartmouth College at 12th, the University of Pennsylvania at 13th and Columbia University scored the 15th position. The top-ranked public school is the University of Michigan’s Ann Arbor campus, which grabbed the 23rd spot.
The Time Higher Education rankings are based on 15 factors across four categories, where 40% of the schools’ score comes from the student outcomes which includes the salary and debt. Other 30% comes from academic resources, 20% from student engagement and 10% from the learning environment like the diversity in students and academic staff. That is why the Ivy League universities continue to dominate these chart because they have a lot of funds.
THE rankings collected this year were near-total shutdown of campuses and haven’t considered the increasingly significant factors such as the quality of virtual education, cost of distance tuition or in-person health and safety practises.
