With A MEXT 2023 Scholarship, International Postgraduate Students In Japan Can Study For Free

International students who want to undertake a postgraduate research programme in Japan for free can apply for a MEXT Scholarship in 2023. The 2023 MEXT Postgraduate (Research Student) Scholarship, also known as the MEXT Postgraduate (Research Student) Scholarship, provides incredible perks and benefits to international students.

For many years, Japan has been a popular study destination, with 312,214 visa-holding international students enrolled in the country in May 2019. There are numerous reasons why overseas students choose to study in Japan, ranging from its high hospitality standards to its ground-breaking advances in the automotive, robotics, and electrical sectors.

A chance to study in Japan is a life-changing opportunity for many overseas students who have developed an academic curiosity about Japanese culture and accomplishments. Great insights and a plethora of practical experiences to support one’s personal and professional development are on the way.

Similarly, the MEXT Scholarship is ideal for ambitious students wishing to broaden their views and study in a country known for being an economic powerhouse.

Scholarship Inclusions

The scholarship package includes full tuition, a monthly stipend of 143,000 Japanese yen, expenses for the entrance exams and matriculation, and flight costs (return economy airfare). The scholarship will cover the entirety of their programme, which might run anywhere from a year and a half to two years. The scholarship is valid from April 2023 through March 2025.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must be under the age of 35 in 2023 and plan to begin a postgraduate research programme at a Japanese university in either April or October of that year. Applicants must exhibit an excellent command of both the English and Japanese languages in addition to satisfying the academic requirements of their Japanese postgraduate study.

Students who have not mastered the Japanese language must agree to enrol in a six-month intensive Japanese language study. This will make their transfer to Japan easier because they will be able to better grasp the programme instructions and adjust to their new host country.

Applicants must pursue a postgraduate research degree in the same field as their previous work or degrees. Applicants must also present documentation of having completed 16 years of formal education outside of the Japanese education system.

The Japanese government seeks applicants for scholarships in the humanities and social sciences (economics, law, politics, sociology, psychology, commerce, history, literature, fine arts, business administration, music) or natural sciences (pure science, engineering, agriculture, fisheries, pharmacology, medicine, dentistry, home economics, veterinary sciences, and others)

All scholarship applications must be received by April 29, 2022.
