The UK government has released a statement of changes to its Immigration rules, which outlines the new rules that have been put into place in place of the older work and study routes.
The New Graduate Route which has created quite a buzz among international students looking to study abroad, because of the welcome changes it brings to norms regarding work after study in the UK. Due to launch on the 1st of July, 2021, the new Graduate Route, allows students who have completed a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree at a recognised UK higher education institute to remain in the UK for an additional 2 years to work or to find work of an appropriate skill level.
Furthermore, PhD students will be allowed to remain for an additional 3 years. Applications for visas under this new route have to be made while the individual is within the UK and holding a valid Tier 4 or (now) Student visa. Students whose visas expire prior to the 1st of July, will not be able to apply for this route. Later on, graduate permit holders will also have the added option to switch to the skilled worker route while still residing in the UK.
There have also been changes made to the global talent route, which is for individuals who have shown outstanding talent or promise in a range of different fields and would wish to bring their talent to the UK. New changes to this route mean that students can bypass the endorsement process, which was a must before the introduction of the new changes.
Apart from these major changes, individuals wishing to emigrate from the UK for any reason, will have to fill in a COVID-19 declaration form, and state the reason of emigration.
